Unit Overview

• This kit is especially designed for students in middle school to participate in an engineering design experience.

• Students use this kit to problem solve and create a design to address a particular need, in this case, a new design for a moving toy.

• A variety of activities prepare students to define the problem, identity parameters, determine the "customers", and establish objectives.

• Students develop a proposal and a prototype for their design.

• Designs are built and tested, then the models are finalized based on test results.

• Students are building knowledge through inquiry-based activities to develop understanding of scientific phenomenon (force, friction, gears, levers) and mathematical concepts (ratio, proportion) involved in creating their design.

• Students work in teams to complete the tasks in the kit.

Scheduling and Science Kit Ordering Information

• Teachers in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties request the kits from us, and the couriers deliver the kits to the schools.  Teachers have up to six weeks to complete each of the learning experiences.  Once the teachers complete the learning experiences provided with the math and science kits, the kits are then sent back to us so we can refurbish them and send them out again when they are requested.  **If you need additional time to complete your kit, please contact 716-376-8272 so we can accommodate an extension.
